Welcome to the Official Whiskey Pilot Site. I was tipped off by a friend who had been googling WP, and stumbled across this Facebook page. Wanting to make sure that there was MORE of WP online than had been previously available, this site was created. Stay tuned as we not only uncover new, and as of yet released pics, vids, and studio recordings, but also a possible reunion
Omega Studios probably has one of the better studios in the Washington DC area. Depending on your budget they have different sized studios which increase in price as you upsize. Our last session at Omega was flawless as usual due to our over rehearsing. No better way to impress, and befriend the engineer than to nail songs on the first take, for every song.
I personally recorded both in the iso booth and in the open studio with baffles. With mic choice and placement aside, the better of the two was the later. Having grown accustomed to being locked into the iso booth I was hesitant to record in the main studio but the results speak for theselves. Of course having top of the line mics, mixing consoles, and engineers didn't hurt it either. I think that another important fact is that you do NOT need a top of the line drumset (acoustic) to have a good recording. Most of my work was done with a 90's Pearl Export which was far from top of the line, with rather dead Pinstripe heads on the batter, and thick Ebonies on the reso which were a fairly dead combination. Good mics, and close placing with limited compression worked wonders.
Stay tuned as we digitalize MORE Whiskey Pilot and upload to the site.
